Stay Still은 관객의 움직임과 소리에 반응해 영상이 해체되는 설치 작업으로, 우리가 ‘자연스럽다’고 여기는 이미지 이면의 디지털 구조를 드러낸다. RGB 색채 체계의 분해를 통해, 시각적 환영이 어떻게 만들어지는지를 탐구하며, 관객이 움직일수록 매체의 기술적 특성이 드러나고, 정지할수록 환영이 복원된다. 이러한 RGB의 분해와 교란은 일상 속 신호등과 같은 시각 기호 체계와 중첩되며, 이러한 매체와 도구에 어떻게 우리의 시각 체계가 반영되고있는지를 드러낸다. 작업과 함께 제시되는 QR코드를 통해 관객들이 활성화시키는 영상 속 상징화된 신호등의 요소들은 작업과 상호작용하며 관객의 경험을 구성한다. 이 작업은 디지털 이미지의 물리성, 감각적 착시, 그리고 관람 행위에 내재된 통제와 자율성 사이의 긴장을 실험적으로 시각화하며, 시선과 권력, 순응과 파괴의 경계에서 매체와 신체가 상호 작동하는 방식을 탐색한다.
Stay Still is an installation that responds to the viewer’s movement and sound, gradually dismantling the image to reveal the digital structures underlying what we perceive as “natural.”
Through the decomposition of the RGB color system, the work explores how visual illusions are constructed—exposing the medium’s technical layers through motion, while restoring the illusion through stillness.
This disruption of RGB overlaps with everyday visual codes such as traffic lights, highlighting how our systems of perception are shaped by media and tools.
Elements of the symbolic traffic light in the video, activated by QR codes presented alongside the installation, interact with the work to form a layered, participatory experience.
The piece experimentally visualizes the tension between the physicality of digital images, sensory illusion, and the dynamics of control and autonomy embedded in the act of viewing—probing how bodies and media operate together at the threshold between gaze and power, compliance and disruption.
