526 pieces of broken mirror, Utrecht, The Netherlands, 2011

I scattered the fragments of a full-length mirror that had shattered into over 500 small pieces. Carrying these fragments with me, I walked through the city of Utrecht, placing each one in a different location across the urban landscape. For every fragment I placed, I recorded its GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) and photographed the site.

Once all the fragments had been distributed, I compiled the data into a map marking each location, effectively creating a dispersed, site-specific installation throughout the city. This map was exhibited at the local tourist office and made available for visitors to take—inviting them to embark on their own reflective journey through Utrecht, both literally and metaphorically, by seeking out the mirror fragments scattered across the city.
